The ‘Gippsland Physiotherapy Group’ Gippsland United Men have swept the Wallan Panthers to earn a Grand Final Berth in our first year back in the competition.
In front of a massive home crowd the Men completely smothered the visitors on defensive end of the floor, not allowing them to get into their offensive sets. The team defense on BigV MVP Candidate Arcaim Lallemand was outstanding, with the men doubling/tripling the Wallan star and then sprinting through their defensive rotations. Scott McKenzie was really pleased that the execution of the defensive game plan was applied so well, providing the springboard to the comprehensive 41 point win.
All twelve of the Men hit the scoreboard on Saturday night with Brandon Armstrong leading the team. Brandon was influential throughout the night – 18p, 6r, 4a, 6 steals. His swarming defense and active hands providing a great spark. The Men doubled the visitors in both rebounds and steals in the game – evidence of the commitment to Coach Scott McKenzie game plan.
Solid contributions from Stephen O’Brien, Jordan Canovan (14 points each) Ben Barlow (10p, 4st) and Kody Tibballs (9p, 7r). Jordan Gooiker was fantastic during the game. In Game 1 – Jordan hit three 3’s and has been dangerous from the arc all year. However, during this game he showed that he’s a dangerous 3 level scorer – getting to the rim, hitting mid range jumpers and splashing 3’s. With his talent and scoring ability, he looks to be a key player in the Grand Final Series.
We will be playing the Pakenham Warriors for the Div2 title. The title is decided in a Best of 3 game series.
GAME 1: Saturday 27th @ Pakenham
GAME 2: Saturday 3rd @ GRISS
